Boston contract research firm inVentiv acquired for $4.6B

Boston-based inVentiv Health has been acquired by INC Research Holdings in a $4.6 billion deal that will create one of the world’s largest contract-research companies.

The deal comes just days after the Wall Street Journal reported that another CRO headquartered in Massachusetts, Waltham-based Parexel International Corp., is exploring a sale. Parexel is in the midst of a major restructuring that could result in more than 1,000 layoffs globally, or around 5 percent of its total workforce.
